Chapter 11 and United

1. What is Chapter 11?

Chapter 11 refers to the section of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code that provides for court-supervised restructuring of companies as they continue to operate in the normal course.

2. Does this filing mean that United is going out of business?

Absolutely not. The changes we make during this process should enable United to strengthen its operations and remain competitive for the long-term.

3. Why did UAL elect to file for reorganization?

UAL filed for Chapter 11 after looking at a number of factors. First, our cash burn was at an unsustainable level, and we have been unable to access the capital markets for some time now. We made an application for loan guarantees to the ATSB, but were unsuccessful. At this point, we determined that the only viable option to address the company's liquidity crisis was to file for court protection.

4. Will the filing affect our safety?

Absolutely not. Customer safety is United's number one priority and we will continue to provide safe and reliable service.

Flights and Services

5. Will United cancel any routes because of the filing?

As we move through the restructuring process, there may be some changes that could affect certain routes, although we will strive to keep the impact on customers to a minimum. We will make public announcements about any such decisions.

6. Will there be service or route changes on United Express flights?

No. United Express flights, which are operated by regional airline partners, should not be affected by our filing.

7. Will any airport services be affected i.e. baggage claim, curbside check-in, ticket counters?

No. United will continue to provide airport services as usual.

8. Will the filing affect the services offered on United's flights such as meals or entertainment?

No. The filing has no effect on in flight services provided by United.

9. Will United's Easy Travel services be affected?

No. All Easy Travel services will continue.

Ticketing

10. Will my ticket be valid throughout the restructuring process?

Yes.

11. Should I continue to book future travel arrangements with United?

Yes. Tickets will be honored.

12. Will ticket prices increase because of the filing?

No. The filing will not cause ticket prices to rise.

13. Can I still receive a refund for an unused ticket?

United's customary refund policies remain in effect.

14. Will other airlines honor my tickets?

The company intends to honor all tickets. Thus, there is no need to use United tickets on other airlines. As was always the case, tickets will be honored by other airlines, and vice versa in accordance with existing agreements and applicable rules and regulations.

15. Will United's code share agreements with US Airways and other carriers remain in effect?

Yes, all code share agreements remain in effect.

16. What impact will the filing have on United's participation in Star Alliance?

None. We continue to offer our customers the ease and convenience of being part of the premier global airline network.

Mileage Plus Members

17. How does the Chapter 11 filing affect the Mileage Plus program?

It doesn't. The Mileage Plus program will continue as usual.

18. Can members continue to redeem mileage for travel awards?

Yes.

19. Can I still accrue mileage on partners' flights?

Yes.

20. Does the filing have any impact on the Mileage Plus Visa Card?

No.

Red Carpet Clubs

21. How does the Chapter 11 filing affect the Red Carpet Clubs?

Red Carpet Clubs will remain open and ready to serve members.

22. Will clubs be closed in the future? Will services be reduced?

While it is possible that we may decide to close some Red Carpet Clubs during the restructuring process, it is too early to say whether we will close any locations or reduce the amenities and services offered. Additionally, members of the Red Carpet Clubs have the added convenience of now accessing US Airways' Clubs, in accordance with certain rules.

Other United Customer Programs

23. Will United continue to offer special vacation packages?

Yes.

24. How does the Chapter 11 filing affect Silver Wing Plus Members?

It doesn't. All of the amenities for Silver Wing Plus members will continue to be offered.

Additional Information

25. How will international operations be affected by the U.S. filing?

United's international operations are not affected by the filing.

26. When will United's reorganization be complete?

While this process will take some time, our goal is to complete the reorganization within 18 months.
