Placing an Order

Fed ExKinko's DocStore

The most efficient way of placing printing orders is through the FedEx Kinko's DocStore. This electonic print-on-demand solution allows you to upload files for printing to the on-campus FedEx Kinko's locations. You can also specify finishing options and view an online proof before before finalizing orders. All users must obtain a username and password from Tom Luczkowiak, t-luczkowiak@northwestern.edu.

Email, Mail or Walk-in Orders

All printing jobs require a completed work order. However, personal work will not be accepted on either campus. Requisition forms are available through the offices on either campus.

Before work begins on any order, the following information needs to be specified on the printing requisition:

  • contact name
  • method of payment (Charge to University or Hospital account, or invoice to associate. University work cannot be processed without an account number)
  • University or Hospital account number (Duplicating Services only)
  • number of pages
  • job description
  • quantity needed
  • preparation services required (if any), such as type, color of paper, typesetting, paste up, etc.
  • proofs required (if any)
  • dimensions (trim size) of the finished piece
  • color of ink(s)
  • type and color of paper
  • finishing services required (if any), such as pad, collate, staple, saddle stitch, fold, plastic bind, perfect bind, shrink wrap, etc.
  • date needed
  • delivery destination, including building name, room number, etc. (or indicate if pickup)
  • previous job number, if the order is a reprint or revision

Attach the most recent sample or original artwork (include plates and negatives for the Chicago campus) with your printing requisition.

For Duplicating orders, send them via campus mail to the Duplicating facility on either campus, or via e-mail. In Evanston, send orders to fmc3605@fedexkinkos.com and in Chicago to fmc3610@fedexkinkos.com. Pickup services is available on both campuses.

The turnaround time for all printed material is based on the premise that the customer will return the proof promptly, and that there will be few or no changes from the original copy. Changes in copy and layout, as well as requests for additional proofs, add to the production time, increase costs, and may change the requested delivery date. Proofs are not sent for exact reprints, duplicating orders, or for business cards, unless requested.

Work orders are generally completed on a "first in/first out" schedule basis. Rush orders will be accommodated, when possible. Because the beginning of each term is a high-demand time for printing & duplicating requests, please plan to get routine orders submitted prior to the beginning of the term. If you cannot submit your order until the beginning of the term, please allow as much time as possible. Materials submitted late may not be completed by the beginning of the term.
