Maintenance

Full mechanical maintenance is provided for all motor pool vehicles.

It is the responsibility of departments with long-term vehicle rental(s) to present their vehicle(s) for maintenance service every three (3) months or three thousand (3,000) miles, whichever comes first. Please contact the Motor Pool office at 847-491-3560 to schedule an appointment. Loaner vehicles can be provided for scheduled maintenance. Please note that the loaner vehicle provided during major service or repair may not be an exact replacement for your current vehicle.

Departments with permanently assigned vehicles are responsible for cooperating with Motor Pool to keep Safety Lane and Emission stickers up to date, and to keep their vehicles clean and in good running condition.

If mechanical problems occur, please contact the Motor Pool office at 847-491-3560 immediately. Breakdowns caused by negligence are fully chargeable to the renting department.

Breakdown

If a vehicle breaks down during normal business hours (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday), please contact Motor Pool at 847-491-3560 for pick up of the disabled vehicle. Please make sure that the telephone you are calling from will accept incoming calls. If a vehicle breaks down outside of normal business hours, the after-hours emergency pager number is (847) 335-3098. This information can also be found in the packet in the glove compartment of the rental vehicle.

If no one can be contacted, make sure the vehicle is in a safe location. If necessary, have the vehicle towed to a safe location. Do not authorize anything but minor repairs. Save the original receipts for all emergency repairs because you will only be reimbursed based on original receipts, not photocopies. Please retain the old parts, if possible, and return them to Motor Pool when you submit the request for reimbursement.

Alternative transportation following a major breakdown or accident may include a replacement rental vehicle, bus, taxi, or train.
