Campus Mail Codes
The mail code
system was developed to increase sorting speed, reduce errors, and
reduce the time it takes to train new employees. Like the zip code
on U.S. mail, the campus mail code is the primary factor that determines
where a piece of mail is delivered.
The Chicago
campus mail code is the same as the plus-four portion of the U.S.
Postal Service's zip+4 codes. The Chicago
campus mail code is alphanumeric and should appear next to the
department or division name on your stationary. There is no need
to add a line to your return address on letterhead, envelopes, and
business cards as long as the correct zip+4 (Evanston) or alphanumeric
code (Chicago) appears as part of the address.
When giving
your address to someone on campus, please include your mail code.
Also, please use the mail code when addressing campus mail. Newer
campus mail envelopes have a line in the address block for this
purpose.
For the convenience
of the Northwestern community, campus mail codes are listed below
by street address and within each address, by department. These
are current as of October 2000. To find a location not listed here
or for any questions concerning use of the campus code, please contact
