Permit Eligibility

Chicago campus parking permits are available for sale starting in September. Parking is available to faculty, staff, and students who meet the following criteria:

  • Live outside the designated boundaries of the Chicago campus**
  • Do not have any unpaid/non-appealed University parking violations
  • Have departmental approval for parking privileges through their department/school space allocation
  • For faculty and staff, at least 50% of their salary is paid from Northwestern University

A parking permit does not imply or guarantee a specific parking space or lot assignment. Falsification of any information for the purpose of obtaining a parking permit or repeated violations of rules and regulations may result in the forfeiture of all parking permits, fees, and eligibility for any subsidized parking rates. The University assumes no responsibility or liability for any damages caused by fire, theft, casualty, or any other cause whatsoever with respect to any car or its contents, in the areas subject to the University's jurisdiction.

**Northwestern University’s Chicago campus faculty, staff, and full-time students may be eligible for parking if they live off campus and outside the designated boundaries of the university, and their departments’ have the space available within their assigned parking allocations.

Local addresses are secured from your official university records, with information submitted by Human Resources and Payroll for faculty and staff, or from each school’s respective Student Services office. If these addresses are outdated or no longer correct, it is the responsibility each faculty, staff or student to have this corrected. Permits will not be issued until this information is current.
