Applying for Parking

Commuter Parking (Days)

To qualify for Northwestern University's subsidized parking, the following conditions must be met:

  1. If you are a student: you must currently be enrolled at Northwestern's School of Law or Feinberg School of Medicine.
  2. If you are an employee: at least 50% of your salary must be drawn from the University via an NU paycheck, and you must work a minimum of 20 hours a week.
  3. If you are interested in 24 hour parking: You must live outside the designated boundaries of the Chicago campus and be approved for parking privileges through your department/school's space allocation. To be considered outside the designated boundaries, you must live north of North Avenue, west of Halsted Street and South of Congress Parkway. The official address of the building is used to determine residence.
  4. You must not have any unpaid/non-appealed University parking violations.

If you are a full-time student who needs commuter parking on the Chicago campus, please contact your respective student affairs office.

If you are a faculty or staff member who meets the above criteria, please speak to your departmental Parking Administrator. If you do not know who your departmental parking administrator is, please contact the Parking Office at (312) 503-1103.

If there is parking available, the departmental administrator should fill out the approval form and submit it to the Parking Office verifying that you may purchase one of their allocated parking spaces. Once the form has been received and processed you will receive your parking application via email.

At the Parking Office, applicants must supply the following:

  • A valid driver's license
  • A valid NU identification card (WildCARD)
  • Current vehicle registration or current insurance card for their vehicle

Note: Car pooling is an option. Two or more faculty, staff or students may share one parking space, however only one keycard is activated to gain access to the garage or lot. All members of the carpool must be University members..

Paying for Parking

Parking is available for students on an annual, academic year, or quarterly basis. Annual parking permits are not available after December 31st. Parking rates for quarters are not prorated. If you use part of a quarterly parking permit, you are responsible for the entire quarterly parking fee.

Students may pay for their parking with cash, check or student account billing. If a student decides to pay for parking via student billing, the charge will show up on the current quarter's tuition statement. The Parking Office does not accept credit cards.

Faculty and staff must pay for their parking through payroll deduction. Parking fees are deducted pre-tax from an employee's paycheck each month.
